Your Talking Landscape Photography Comprehensive Photo Masterclass adventure begins with a convenient pick-up from Launceston Airport. From there, we'll transport you to the charming, authentically Tasmanian town of Winnaleah, where you'll settle into our stunning artist accommodation.
Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed by our gracious host, Gillian from Artable, and have the opportunity to meet your instructors – Luke Tscharke, Benjamin Maze, and Paul Hoelen. We'll gather for a welcome session and introduction to the exciting 6 days ahead, discussing the workshop schedule and the incredible shooting locations you'll experience, from the lush rainforests of the Blue Tier to the iconic Bay of Fires coastline.
Sun Sep 29, 2024The second day will focus on the fundamentals of landscape photography planning and theory. The morning session begins with Paul leading an insightful discussion on the passion and purpose behind our photography, exploring the driving forces that inspire us as artists. Following this, Luke will share his expertise on planning landscape shoots and reading weather patterns effectively.
After a delicious lunch, the afternoon will be dedicated to the art of landscape photography composition, led by Ben. He will present a thought-provoking discussion on compositional theory, followed by an engaging case study session. Together, we will analyse the compositional elements of each image, discussing how the photographer may have approached the scene and what they aimed to convey through their work. This collaborative and interactive session will provide a strong foundation for the hands-on shooting days ahead, equipping you with the knowledge and insight to create compelling compositions in the field.
Mon Sep 30, 2024After a day of immersing yourself in the theory and planning aspects of landscape photography, it's time to put your knowledge into practice. We'll venture into the lush, pristine rainforests of Tasmania's northeast, where you'll have the opportunity to capture the essence of this enchanting environment under the guidance of your instructors. From the intricate details of the forest floor to the towering canopies above, you'll explore a variety of compositions and techniques to create stunning images that showcase the beauty and diversity of the rainforest.
When not shooting, you'll head back to our workshop base for post-processing sessions led by Ben, with Luke and Paul on hand to provide additional support and insights. In these sessions, you'll learn how to use Lightroom and Photoshop to bring out the best in your images, enhancing colors, adjusting contrast, and fine-tuning your compositions. With the expert guidance of your instructors, you'll gain the skills and confidence to transform your raw captures into captivating works of art that reflect your unique vision and style.
Tue Oct 1, 2024After an exhilarating day exploring the rainforests, Day 4 will take you to the stunning coastal landscapes of the Bay of Fires. Known for its vibrant orange lichen-covered boulders and pristine turquoise waters, this iconic location offers endless opportunities for creative composition and breathtaking seascapes. Your instructors will be there to guide you through the challenges and opportunities of seascape photography, helping you to adapt your techniques to the prevailing weather conditions, and refine your long exposures.
As with the previous day, we'll be flexible with our shooting locations to ensure that you're able to make the most of the conditions and capture the essence of this spectacular coastal environment. When not in the field, you'll continue to refine your post-processing skills under the guidance of Ben, Luke, and Paul, learning new techniques and workflows to bring out the best in your coastal captures.
Wed Oct 2, 2024On Day 5, we'll take a more reflective approach, focusing on reviewing and refining the images you've captured over the previous days. Paul, with his extensive experience as a national and international competition judge, will lead invaluable sessions for image feedback and critique. This is an opportunity to gain insights into the strengths of your work and identify areas for improvement, helping you to curate a cohesive and compelling portfolio that showcases your growth and vision as a photographer.
As part of this process, you'll also select one of your favourite images from our shoots to prepare for printing, giving you a taste of what's to come in the following day's printing workshop. Luke, Paul, and Ben will be available for one-on-one instruction throughout the day, providing personalised guidance on any topics you'd like to explore further or questions you may have about your photography.
Thu Oct 3, 2024On Day 6, we're thrilled to welcome a very special guest: Simon Olding of Full Gamut, the premier fine art printing authority based in Hobart. Simon is not only the trusted printer for Luke and Paul's large format print orders but also the authorised printer of the late Peter Dombrovskis' iconic work.
Simon will lead one of his signature print workshops, sharing his vast knowledge and expertise in the art of fine art printing. He'll guide you through the process of preparing your selected image for printing, discussing topics such as colour management, paper selection, and print optimisation. You'll gain a deeper understanding of how to translate your digital files into stunning physical prints that truly do justice to your photographic vision.
The highlight of the day will be the opportunity to print your favourite image from the workshop under Simon's expert guidance. Using state-of-the-art printing equipment and materials, you'll create a high-quality fine art print that showcases the beauty and detail of your chosen photograph. This hands-on experience will give you a newfound appreciation for the craft of printing and the role it plays in bringing your photographic work to life.
Fri Oct 4, 2024On the final morning of the Talking Landscape Photography Comprehensive Photo Masterclass, we'll come together to celebrate the culmination of a week filled with learning, growth, and creative exploration. This is an opportunity to showcase the beautiful fine art prints created during the previous day's workshop with Simon Olding and to reflect on the knowledge and skills you've gained throughout the week.
This is a time to celebrate your achievements, forge lasting connections with like-minded photographers, and draw inspiration from the incredible work produced by the group. To add an element of fun and friendly competition, there might even be a prize awarded for the best print of the bunch, as voted by your peers and instructors.
As the morning draws to a close, you'll leave with a newfound appreciation for the art of landscape photography, a wealth of knowledge and skills to apply to your future work, and a network of supportive and talented photographers to continue learning from and collaborating with. As you bid farewell to the workshop, you'll carry with you a wealth of experiences and lessons that will undoubtedly influence and inspire your future photographic pursuits.
Sat Oct 5, 2024Our 6 nights will be spent at Enclave by Artable, a newly revamped accommodation catered specifically for artist experiences. Our host Gillian has been running artist retreats for over a decade all over the world, and has chosen this quiet corner of Tasmania as the perfect place to focus on creativity and community. With everything from airport transfers to meals included, you’ll be able to focus fully on the experience at hand. Spaces in our accommodation include an adaptable classroom & learning area, a spacious rustic lounge room to wind down and gather in, a generous open-air rear courtyard and paddock complete with picnic tables, an ensuite bathroom for every bedroom, as well as a pub space where you can share a drink with a couple of the friendly locals.
